Scenarios to Simulation Workshop

On February 26th and 27th, 2015 a group of 30 ecologists, social scientists, and modelers gathered at Dartmouth College for the second S3RCN workshop: Scenarios to Simulation.  The agenda included a diverse list of speakers who discussed various aspects of modeling with stakeholders and methods and best practices for translating qualitative stories of the future into quantitative simulations of land change.  Several productive break-out sessions focused on developing and building on a typology of narrative translation approaches, best practices for modeling with stakeholders, and a deeper-dive into specific translation techniques with a provided narrative.  Insights from the workshop will inform the narrative-to-model translation and narrative elicitation process for the RCN.  A group of authors is also working on a peer-reviewed synthesis paper coming out of the workshop.  The workshop was funded by the National Science Foundation under grant number DEB-
